Bay Area’s Classic Luxury Car Repair Experts

Owning a classic luxury car in the Bay Area is a privilege that the climate is built for. Dry weather, no road salt, and a network of canyon roads from Tilden to Highway 1 make this one of the best regions in the country to keep an air-cooled Porsche, a Pagoda Mercedes, a Ferrari 308, or a Jaguar E-Type on the road. The hard part is not finding somewhere to drive these cars. It is finding someone you trust to work on them. As the Bay Area’s classic luxury car repair experts, that is exactly what we do.

Why Classic Luxury Cars Need Specialist Care

A 1973 911, a 1968 280SL, and a 1982 Ferrari 308 GTSi do not respond well to modern shop habits. The diagnostic ports are not there, the parts books are not in the same software the chain stores use, and the procedures are different in ways that matter. Mechanical fuel injection, points-and-condenser ignitions, carburetors, hydropneumatic suspension, and aluminum body panels all require time and specific knowledge. They punish anyone who treats the car like a modern daily driver.

A specialist shop matters for three practical reasons:

  • Diagnosis is different. On a classic, you read symptoms through gauges, smells, and sounds, not OBD-II codes. Misreading the symptom usually means replacing the wrong part.
  • Tools and parts sources are different. Bosch K-Jetronic test gear, distributor machines, single-tooth crank locking tools, and original-spec fasteners are not in a typical chain shop. Sourcing comes from a specific network of vendors built up over the years.
  • The owner relationship is different. Classic owners want to understand the work, the why, and the timeline. We write up findings, photograph what we see, and explain options before doing the work.

Brands and Eras We Specialize In

Classic and modern-classic luxury covers a wide range of cars and decades. The list below is where our depth is genuine. If your car falls outside it, we will tell you up front and refer you rather than learn on your dime.

Air-cooled and early water-cooled Porsche

Long-hood and short-hood 911 (1965 to 1989), 912, 930 Turbo, 964, and 993. Early water-cooled 996 and 997 work, including IMS bearing assessment, RMS, and bore-scoring inspection on M96 and M97 engines. We are equally comfortable with carbureted, CIS, and Motronic-era 911s, plus 944 and 928 work where the parts and knowledge support it.

Classic Mercedes-Benz

Pagoda SLs (W113), R107 SLs, the W108 and W109 sedans, the 6.3 and 6.9 sedans, the W123 line, R129 SLs, and W126 S-Class. Mechanical fuel injection on Pagodas, K-Jet on later cars, and the climate-control quirks on R107 are all in our regular rotation.

Vintage British luxury

Jaguar E-Type Series 1, 2, and 3, plus the XK series, XJS, and early XJ saloons. Aston Martin DB6, V8 Vantage, and Virage. Bentley and Rolls-Royce work focused on Silver Cloud, Silver Shadow, Silver Spirit, and Continental R era cars. SU and Weber carburetor work, Lucas electrical diagnosis, and pattern-part vetting are part of every project.

Italian classics

Ferrari 308, 328, 348, Mondial, Testarossa, 550 Maranello, 575M, and select earlier 250, 330, and 365 work, depending on scope. Maserati Bora, Khamsin, Quattroporte, Biturbo. Alfa Romeo Giulia GTV, Spider Veloce, and 8C. Lamborghini Espada, Urraco, Jalpa, Countach, and Diablo on a case-by-case basis. We are honest about which Italian cars are in our routine rotation and which we treat as longer-lead-time projects.

Classic and modern-classic BMW

2002 (including tii with Kugelfischer mechanical injection), E9 CS, E24 6 Series, E28 M5, E30 M3, E34 M5, and the E36 M3 era. M88 and S38 inline-six work, S14 four-cylinder service, and Motorsport-era electronics.

Pricing and Estimates

Classic work does not respond well to flat-rate quoting. Two cars of the same model and year can need very different work depending on how they were stored, who owned them, and what was last done. We provide written estimates after we inspect the car, and we update the estimate before any scope change. We will not start additional work without authorization.

Who We Serve Across the Bay Area

Cars Dawydiak Body Shop is based in San Francisco, with regular customers from across the Bay Area. We see classic owners from San Francisco, Marin County, the East Bay (Berkeley, Oakland, Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Orinda, Danville), the Peninsula (San Mateo, Burlingame, Hillsborough, Atherton, Palo Alto), and the South Bay (Los Altos, Saratoga, Los Gatos, Cupertino). Owners from Sonoma, Napa, and the Monterey Peninsula visit us seasonally for major work or pre-Pebble Beach preparation.

For owners outside a reasonable driving distance, we coordinate enclosed transport directly. For owners across the Bay Area who simply do not want to drive their classic in traffic, we offer pickup and delivery within a defined radius.

What Makes a Specialist Shop Different

There are good general shops and good chain stores in the Bay Area. They are not the right call for a 50-year-old V12. The differences that matter to a classic owner:

  • Tools that match the era. Bosch CIS test rigs, distributor machines, sandbox-era diagnostic gear, period-correct torque specifications, and fasteners on hand.
  • Parts network built over decades. Original-equipment suppliers, NOS sources, marque-specific specialists, and a working relationship with the major restoration parts houses.
  • Continuity of staff. The technician who serviced your car last spring is the same one who picks it up this fall. No rotating-bay culture.
  • Documentation owners can use. Service records that hold up to a future buyer, a concours judge, or an insurance adjuster.
  • Knowing what we do not know. If a project falls outside our depth, we will say so. We would rather refer you to the right specialist than learn on your car.

The Bottom Line

Classic luxury cars are not difficult cars. They are specific cars. They reward owners who pair them with people who understand how the car was built, what it needs, and what it is worth preserving. That is the work we have built our shop around, and the reason Bay Area classic owners keep coming back.
